Using any resources that you can find, identify the difference between nursing practice and advanced practice nursing. Support advanced practice nursing by identifying nursing theories that can be applied to advanced practice nursing.
There are some similarities and differences between the terms of using nursing practice compared to advance practice nursing. For one, the nursing practice generally refers to a nurse, a registered nurse's role in providing care to patients. It involves the nursing process (ADPIE), and practices care using safe measures and evidence-based outcomes while promoting health outcomes in line with care plans constructed by providers. On the other hand, advanced practice nursing consists of an RN, but with a higher level of education and training, as well as scope of practice. They are considered providers rather than caregivers, that have additional education and training in clinical assessment, including history taking and physical examination, clinical reasoning and independent prescribing, so they can safely manage patients with various health-related issues (Hill, Diamond-Fox, & Mitchell, 2021). Advanced practice nursing involves diagnosing and prescribing, as well educating patients, and forming structures of care with the patient, instead of for the patient. Nola Penders model of health promotion advocates for health promotion with the primary objective of helping individuals, communities, and even families to acquire health behaviors that foster the achievement of their optimal health potential (StudyCorgi, 2020). Nola Penders theory on health promotion uses a model based on the belief of the patient holds an active role in managing their health. Penders model considers the ideas, beliefs, environmental factors, behaviors, and strategies of the patient. The APN can take these into account and adjust modes of care to fit each patient to their needs. It focuses on the self-promotion of care and wellness and clarifies the active role of providers. It guides patient health promotion cohesively with the advanced practice nurse to encourage positive health results.

Nurses deliver nursing care that promotes and maintains health, prevents illness, heals, and rehabilitates. They support the resources of people and communities at different stages of their lives (Jokiniemi et al., 2019). Nursing practice in the US is set forth by each states Nurse Practice Act. In California, for instance, a nurse should have completed an educational program meeting all California requirements and should have passed the National Council Licensure Examination, also known as the NCLEX (California Board of Registered Nursing, n.d.). In terms of education requirements, the advanced practice nurse has completed an accredited graduate-level education program and passed a national certification examination that measures APRN role and population-focused competencies. The role was initially developed to provide primary care to the underserved. The advanced practice nurse builds on the competencies of a registered nurse with a greater depth of knowledge, increased complexity of skills and interventions, and greater role autonomy. In addition to health promotion and maintenance similar to nursing practice, advanced practice nursing involves assessment, diagnosis, and management of patient problems, including the use of pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions. There are four advanced practice nurse roles which are certified registered nurse anesthetist, certified nurse-midwife, clinical nurse specialist, and certified nurse practitioner (DeNisco, 2021).
Nursing theories such as Virginia Hendersons Need Theory, which identifies the 14 basic needs of the patient, and Jean Watsons Theory of Human Caring, which focuses on the relationship of the nurse and patient attending to the unification of the mind, body, and spirit to achieve optimal health are theories that can also be applied to advanced practice nursing. Advanced practice nurses also utilize theories by Hildegard Peplau as the nurse takes on roles being a counselor, resource, technical expert, and leader, and Leininger, by being culturally sensitive in their assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients (DeNisco, 2021).
